The New Generation of AFOs

Santiago Munoz has been supporting the FIOR & GENTZ team in North America for some time now. Santiago Munoz is a CPO (Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist), which is the equivalent of a master orthotist in Germany. At the University of Pittsburgh, he was a faculty member at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, where he helped introduce the NEURO SWING system ankle joint to the US market. Currently, he is working exclusively for FIOR & GENTZ as CEO of Equation Orthotic Technologies, where he provides the distribution of the NEURO SWING as well as technical support and clinical training for the system ankle joint.
His article with the title “The New Generation of AFOs” appeared in the November issue of the magazine O&P Edge.
About the content: In the past, orthoses were often perceived as bulky appliances that lacked functionality and therapeutic benefits. Only the dynamic properties of modern orthoses ensure an efficient use in rehabilitation for many neurological indications such as cerebral palsy and stroke. Conventional ankle-foot orthoses do not meet all of the requirements of modern treatment. An orthosis with NEURO SWING system ankle joint offers the possibility to individually respond to the needs of the patient with variable, high spring forces, an adjustable alignment and an adjustable range of motion. The NEURO SWING system ankle joint is therefore the ideal system component for a dynamic ankle-foot orthosis.
